For the photographer, weddings are typically done in 4 standard stages:

  1. Preparation: hair and makeup, getting dressed
  2. The ceremony
  3. Group photos
  4. Reception

Preparation

Preparation: Traditionally, the bride and groom parties prepare separately in the morning before the ceremony. For each separate party, this is a moment to relax with friends, and the resulting photos really show off the unique personality of everyone in the group in this more relaxed state. The photos end up showing the work and the process of transformation that turns a woman into a bride, which is also something that some people like to see.

I’m present here but the activities are being dictated by the hairdresser/Makeup artist. My role here is to allow all of the activities to flow, and to catch whatever I can as it happens.

Many brides and bridesmaids find that their favorite photos result from this section of their day.

The Ceremony

This is what everyone thinks about when they think about weddings. I as the photographer catch each of the most important moments, including the saying of vows and the rings being placed upon the finger, and I work to do it without being obtrusive in the ceremony itself.

Group Photos

This is the part where we get the family and friends together. This is the one part where we pose for staged photos, and it’s the part where I work as director to pose everyone and manage everyone’s movements. . These are the pictures of family all dressed in their best, that generally get framed and placed on the mantel.

The Reception

The work is done and now it’s time to party!
